Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s End Partnership After Few Months

In a surprising turn of events, Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s have mutually decided to end their expanded partnership that started just a few months ago. The ambitious plan to offer Krispy Kreme doughnuts in all McDonald’s U.S. locations by the end of next year will no longer go ahead.

The partnership, which was announced in March 2024 and began rolling out six months ago, faced challenges aligning costs with demand. Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth stated, “Ultimately, efforts to bring our costs in line with unit demand were unsuccessful, making the partnership unsustainable for us.”

Both companies have faced struggles in the current economic climate. McDonald’s has been trying to regain customers amid inflationary pressures, while Krispy Kreme has reported significant financial losses. Despite these difficulties, McDonald’s expressed satisfaction with the partnership though it downplayed the impact of ending it, noting Krispy Kreme products were only available in about 2,400 out of 13,500 U.S. stores.

The discontinuation of Krispy Kreme doughnuts at McDonald’s locations will take effect from July 2. Customers who enjoyed the offerings will now have to seek Krispy Kreme products elsewhere.
